“The senses, the explorers of the environment, open a path to knowledge” says Dr. Montessori in her book “Absorbent Mind”; therefore, sensorial education is a fundamental element of her approach and in the first three years of life, it focuses on offering experiences that respond to a child’s curiosity and tendency to explore throughout his body.
Colors, shapes, sizes, smells, flavors, weights, textures, temperatures, become part of the child’s absorbent mind, which has unlimited potential and lays the foundation for thought processes.
The materials are simple but attractive, they have a defined purpose and give the child the possibility of learning through his own activity.
In her book: A Human Being, Dr. Silvana Quattrocchi Montanaro, a Montessori expert at 0-3 stage, includes among the needs of the
newborn to explore the new environment with all the senses and explains:
“We can easily provide rich stimuli to newborns, no expensive equipment is needed, but only trained people who understand what a newborn is and who offer valuable experiences to children with intelligent love.”
